The JIEB History

Understanding The History of JIEB

By the end of the 1950s, the assessment system for international candidates, whose families are required to be working outside their own countries, or who are members of professional bodies working overseas did not exist. Secondary and further education and exams were only available to a small group, characterised by social class, age and gender, rather than ability. At the same time, exams were used by educational organisations and some professional bodies to select students and candidates.

Below you can see JIEB’s journey and how it and its predecessor boards have contributed to making exams accessible to all people, irrespective of their age, class, gender, belief etc.

1958

The Medical and Healthcare Group of Europe established the Joint Assessments Board (JAB) and became exam providers for their membership services. They were later joined by Medical and Healthcare organisations in Africa and Asia.

From the beginning, the JAB sought to establish a partnership with international academies, study and learning centres, providing support for educators and setting up subject committees of teachers and professional and learned societies.

1960

The International Associated Examination Board (IAEB) was established to provide the new High School Diploma and Further Education Diploma to all participating international academies, study and learning centres. The purpose of the new qualification was to offer a wider range of subjects to more participants and candidates, with an emphasis on self directed learning, project activities, practical activities, distance learning opportunities, research and independent studies, including classroom teaching for all abilities. The aim of this move elopement was to provide more flexible working and learning opportunities to all participants in the various programmes.

2022

The JAB merged with the International High School Examining Group (IHSEG) to form the Joint International Examinations And Assessment Board (IEAAB), and in March 2022, after many years of consultations and membership requests from various professionals bodies for a membership service, a merger with the IAEB created the Joint International Examination Board (JIEB), and it was agreed that it will be one of the membership services of the Bulgarian Association of Health Care Professionals. Hence, we are now simply known as JIEB.

2024

JIEB acquired Educational Workshop Forum, an online community where educators and teachers share teaching and learning resources, and Electronic Black Boards, Computer Aided Learning Facilities, which enables tutors/teachers to access past paper questions and assessments materials to create customised work and provides interactive on-screen assessments, feedback and notifications with evaluation for candidates.

The JAB’s founding commitment to give all candidates the opportunity to show their abilities remains at the heart of our charitable intents objective, which is to promote and advance education by enabling tutors/teachers and candidates to realise their potential.
